WIP 2016 values were primarily used in the Remah area. Due to the more differentiated nature of the aquifer in this region, only WIP 2016 measurements were taken that have information about the total depth of the well. And then only the measurements were 0<TD<220 m. 220m appeared to be roughly the cut-off value where the aquifer changes.ESRI ArcGIS specific the data derived in this way was interpolated with Topo to Raster (additional data: coastline as 0m contour; Topo Raster with No Enforce, 100m cell size, primary source: spot).Of the interpolated raster the 20m contours were exported. While displaying the gathered water level points, these contours were redrawn to root out the influence from single wells. The redrawn contours were then interpolated with the well points again (topo to raster, no enforcement, 100m cell size). This time 10m contour lines were exported. These were used to remodel the 10m contour lines in between the already existing 20m contour lines. Special caution has been used to specifically weigh points were RDM were taken and DGPS data was available. Several 5m contour lines were added in places of interest, to enhance the information density in the southern part of the Emirate.The contours along the coast and in the south eastern region are based on very little information. These were adapted to ensure that the water table is lower than the surface level as much as possible.With these contours a background raster was interpolated and extracted to AD Emirate Layer", "description": "Two areas of freshwater with low mineral content are found in Abu Dhabi Emirate:In the northeast, rainfall from the Hajjar Mountains recharges the aquifer and slowly flows towards the Arabian Gulf. The longer the water remains in the aquifer, the more time it has to dissolve minerals and interact with the rocks: In general, the water gets more saline as it flows towards the sea. Another area of low salinity is found north of Liwa, where recharge from rainfall is minimal and the resulting groundwater is older. Most of it entered the aquifer thousands of years ago, in a time with a more humid climate. Very slow groundwater flow, uniform sandy lithology, and a distinct vertical salinity gradient in the aquifer have kept the uppermost groundwater fresh for centuries. Along the coast in the west, as well as in the southeast, the groundwater table is very shallow. In these sabkha flats, the groundwater comes close to the surface and some of it evaporates. The dissolved minerals stay behind and lead to a further salinisation of the groundwater. Areas with a strongly declining water table coincide with the areas of highest groundwater abstraction for agricultural irrigation. The areas around Remah and Al Wagan illustrate this best. In the course of 25 years, the water level in groundwater monitoring wells has dropped by more than 50 m. The map shows the groundwater level change between 2005 and 2017. While yellow and red areas face a continued decline of groundwater levels, in blue areas a relative rise is observed. This relative rise is mainly attributed to a small reduction in agricultural activity and shut-down of well fields. Though between 2005 and 2017 the groundwater level slightly increased in these areas, an absolute drawdown prevails compared with the natural state. True rising of the water table takes place only in the vicinity of Al Ain, where losses from the water network and excessive landscape irrigation leads to rising water levels above the natural state.Processing Steps (DCI 2018): 648 available water level measurements from 2005 were joined with the closest of the water level measurements 16/17 that was used for the calculation of the water table. Only values with a join distance of less than 600 meters were considered further (341 remaining).The change in water level from the two measurements (2005 and 2016/17) was calculated and interpolated
