 "description": "<DIV STYLE=\"text-align:Left;\"><DIV><DIV><P STYLE=\"margin:0 0 7 0;\"><SPAN><SPAN>The spatial distribution of Al Defara fishing gear used in Abu Dhabi Emirate. Al Defara is an encircling gill net placed around schools of fish in shallow waters. The gill net has a lead bottom line that touches the sea bottom and closes it off to hold the fish. From the side of the boat the net is hauled carefully, making sure the net forms a pocket from which fish cannot escape. Al Defara is regulated to be used only within buhoors by tarad fishermen holding privileged concession rights to fish in a specific sea area (buhoor). Data originates from Abu Dhabi commercial fisheries statistics stored in the National Fisheries Information System (NFIS), 2010-2012. Enumerators interview fishermen on their fishing trip whereabouts, utilizing a marine grid with spatial units measuring approx. 18 by 18 km. This allowed to pinpoint the actual fishing grounds for the Al Defara fishing gear more accurately. The resulting spatial distribution polygon was inferred by Inverse Distance Weighting tool (IDW), classified to eight Jenks natural break classes, excluding fishing intensity values below 0.05.
